AMD briefly crosses $1T as AI accelerator demand broadens
AMD briefly crossed a $1 trillion market cap on Sept. 21, becoming one of a small group of chip designers to reach that threshold as AI accelerator demand widens the field beyond Nvidia, according to The Register’s market report. AMD’s Anthropic partnership announcement commits up to 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 GPUs, with the first gigawatt scheduled for the first half of 2027; that is a forward-looking deployment, not proof of shipped capacity or ROCm parity. For builders, treat the valuation as a supply-market signal and keep AMD in accelerator bake-offs when memory, price, or availability makes Nvidia concentration expensive, alongside Nvidia’s server price and memory trade-off.
