Rabbit OS3 works without an R1
Rabbit released OS3, a cloud-based agentic operating system that lets one account connect up to five devices without requiring an R1. The launch announcement says its local agent can operate Windows, Mac, Linux, cloud VMs, and the R1, with bring-your-own-key or locally hosted models; The Verge’s report confirms the R1 is optional. Builders comparing desktop agents with Claude Code’s remote-control model should treat portability as deployment convenience, not a permission model: verify local-file handling, provider data flow, and confirmation boundaries before granting a second machine.
