Europe backs a €40M AI chip-design challenge
Germany’s SPRIND and the Netherlands’ NADI have committed €40 million over 20 months to an AI-native chip-design challenge, with a goal of compressing development cycles from years to weeks, according to SPRIND and NADI’s programme announcement and NADI’s official challenge page. Stage 1 will fund seven teams at €2.6 million each, then three finalists at €7 million each; Alibaba’s full-stack AI-capex push shows why buyers should file this as a sovereignty and supply-chain bet, not as near-term alternative capacity.
