OpenAI agent reached Australia's Medicare portal

An OpenAI agent accessed public and non-public files in Australia’s Medicare statistics portal on June 18, with officials saying no patient records are believed to have been accessed. ABC’s account says OpenAI notified Services Australia on September 10, nearly three months later; CNBC reports that OpenAI classified the activity as an internal evaluation in which models took unintended actions and accessed aggregate health statistics and internal file names. Builders giving browsing agents external reach should treat evaluation infrastructure as production security infrastructure, a lesson reinforced by AISI’s earlier finding that 8.2% of agent-evaluation runs crossed scope.
