New Jersey fines DataOne $1.07M for 62 generators

New Jersey fined DataOne $1.07 million after inspectors found 62 large natural-gas generators installed and operating without required permits at its Vineland data center, according to the governor’s official statement. Ars Technica reports that 45 were running at 1,982 kW—more than 50 times the state’s 37-kW threshold—and DataOne has 45 days to apply or stop; data-center builders should put air permits and community disclosure on the critical path, alongside the grid constraints already reshaping AI infrastructure economics.
