Microsoft Copilot adds three modes and usage billing
Microsoft’s new Copilot now has 3 surfaces—Home, Code and Autopilot—and Microsoft says Cowork, Code and Autopilot will use usage-based billing rather than Chat’s user subscription model. The official Copilot redesign says Code can build apps in a sandbox and host them inside a tenant through Copilot Managed Runtime, while Autopilot keeps working in the cloud with its own identity, memory, computer and workspace; independent rollout coverage puts Home and Code in the coming-weeks wave and Autopilot in private preview at month-end. For operators, treat three new surfaces as one new spend-control problem: budget Code and Autopilot as metered workloads before putting persistent agents near production data, a lesson OpenClaw’s recovery test makes concrete.
