Shopify gives browser agents a checkout
Shopify has rolled out WebMCP checkout to eligible merchants, exposing three tools—get_checkout, update_checkout, and complete_checkout—for browser-based agents. Shopify’s checkout changelog says the tools share state with checkout UI and return control to buyers for authorization and steps such as 3D Secure; TechCrunch’s report says the rollout extends WebMCP from storefront search and carts to transaction completion. Builders should treat this as a structured checkout surface, not permission to skip consent: agent commerce can now avoid scraping, but authorization and failure handoff remain product boundaries. The archive’s Claude commerce checkout analysis explains why those boundaries matter.
