VSMC opens $7.8B Singapore chip fab

VSMC, the VIS–NXP joint venture, has entered risk production at its first Singapore 300mm fab, a project backed by about $7.8 billion and scheduled for mass production in Q1 2027. VSMC’s project page records the investment, while Focus Taiwan’s opening report says current capacity is fully booked and could reach 44,000 wafers a month by 2029. For AI builders, this is supply-chain plumbing rather than a new GPU source: power-management and interposer capacity can still decide whether dense systems ship; Broadcom’s AI supply expansion shows why those upstream constraints matter.
