Anthropic says robots reach 74% of physical tasks
Anthropic estimates robots can perform 74% of U.S. physical tasks in at least some circumstances, covering 34% of working time, but says they are cost-competitive for only 0.3% of work. The research distinguishes capability from deployment: only about 1% of all work is exposed to robots in unstructured environments, while a robot rollout could take 40 years to make 10% of tasks cost-competitive if price declines follow historical trends. Builders should treat the figure as a map for warehouse, transport, and other structured pilots—not a license to budget humanoids across the workforce; SiMa’s hardware roadmap is a useful reminder that silicon, deployment setting, and proof of throughput still gate physical-AI bets.
