AWS signs $1B+ Synopsys chip-design deal
Amazon Web Services signed a multiyear agreement worth more than $1 billion with Synopsys to license application-optimized silicon IP, making AWS the lead customer for Synopsys’s expanded IP business. The announcement also expands AWS’s use of Synopsys EDA, simulation, analysis, and agentic-AI tooling across custom chips including Trainium and Graviton, under a license-plus-royalty model. Operators should treat the deal as evidence that hyperscalers are internalizing more of the silicon stack, alongside the archive’s mixed-chip inference analysis, not as proof that any one custom accelerator is ready to replace Nvidia.
