Tencent reportedly leases 100,000 chips through Oracle
China’s Tencent reportedly signed a five-year lease with Oracle for access to about 100,000 advanced AI chips in Southeast Asia, in a deal estimated at $7 billion with roughly 30% upfront. Reuters’ syndicated account says the report came from the Financial Times and could not be independently verified; Oracle and Tencent had not commented. If the terms hold, export-constrained builders will be buying geographically hosted capacity—not chips—as a strategic workaround, the same procurement boundary surfaced in GMI Cloud’s $668M GPU expansion.
