Amazon pledges $1B for data-center neighbors

Amazon says its new Built Together program will add more than $1 billion over five years to U.S. communities hosting its data centers, alongside a data-center commitment on energy, water, jobs, and transparency. Plans include free degree access for more than 300,000 students, 16 more modular training centers, upgrades for 300-plus schools and community buildings and 30,000-plus homes, and local nonprofit funding. Data-center builders should treat community spend as capacity-enablement, not philanthropy; the archive’s analysis of AI data-center power and household bills explains why local ratepayer math can decide whether a campus gets built.
