arXiv caps submitters at two submissions a month
Starting October 1, arXiv limits each submitter to two submissions per month and three active submissions across all subject categories. In its rate-limit announcement, arXiv says September volume reached 40,363 submissions—about double September 2024—and generated nearly 9,000 support tickets; it cites advanced AI tools as one factor in the rise in thin and dense AI-written papers. A rejected paper still uses one monthly slot, while the limit applies to the uploader rather than every coauthor; the archive’s expert and Lean checks for AI-generated mathematics show why faster drafting still needs a serious verification loop. Research teams that rely on preprints should schedule submissions around the cap instead of treating rejection as a free retry.
