SoftBank completes its final $10B OpenAI tranche
Follows up on SoftBank Sells ¥1T of Bonds to Japanese Savers
SoftBank completed the final $10 billion leg of its $30 billion OpenAI follow-on, taking cumulative investment to $64.6 billion (about 13%) and canceling its last $10 billion of undrawn bridge capacity, according to Sayer’s account of the company disclosure. The company funded the tranche with foreign-currency senior notes, so the August post’s claim that its record ¥1 trillion retail bond was only one slice of the financing still holds; that analysis also cautioned that funding proves commitment, not returns. For infrastructure buyers, SoftBank’s concentrated OpenAI exposure is now funded and closed at this stage; the announcement says nothing about realized returns or OpenAI’s operating results.
