Nearhuman raises £350K for scooter safety AI

Nearhuman raised £350,000 in pre-seed funding for on-device safety AI, with its live shared-scooter pilot already running in Bristol. The company announcement says a vehicle-mounted camera detects pavement riding, pedestrian close calls, and road hazards, then processes and redacts footage on the device. That design aims to give operators street-level safety insights without replacing their fleets or sending sensitive footage to the cloud. For micromobility operators, this is a privacy-conscious way to gather risk data, though the evidence remains one local pilot; the case for on-device AI explains how compute location can change a product’s privacy boundary.
