Meta and Sierra draft OAuth protocol for personal agents
Eight companies are drafting an OAuth-based protocol for personal agents to access businesses, with user-chosen permissions and business-defined limits, according to Sierra’s announcement. A session can start as a guest, then carry across sign-in with read-only or write access; the company chooses whether the agent uses its site, API, or its own service agent. The v0.1 specification and reference implementation are still forthcoming, so this is a proposal rather than a deployable checkout integration. Merchants can compare the protocol’s promise of reach with the adoption limits in Realtor.com’s RealAssist rollout before committing to custom agent paths.
