Muse for Mac opens five native app surfaces
09/19/26, 11:51 PM

Meta’s Muse for Mac now works across five native surfaces—Files, Messages, Calendar, Notes, and Mail—after its September 17 desktop release. TechCrunch’s report says access is opt-in and sensitive actions still require approval. For builders, local-agent UX has moved from browser tabs to permissioned app surfaces, so prototype revocation and confirmation prompts before expanding tool access; the archive’s ambient-computing analysis covers the adjacent device shift.

DAMO RADAR reads 146 conditions from CT scans
09/19/26, 11:49 PM

Alibaba’s DAMO RADAR can screen a single abdominal CT scan for 146 diseases, and coverage of its Science study reports that it outperformed 23 of 26 specialist radiologists in a reader comparison. The released implementation was trained on more than 400,000 contrast-enhanced CT examinations and 15 million anatomy-aware image-text pairs. Hospitals should file this as an open research baseline, not deployment clearance: reproduce performance on local populations and complete regulatory review before putting a generalist reader into clinical workflow; the archive’s clinical-evidence analysis covers the adjacent validation problem.

Suno v6 faces a 60,202-recording lawsuit
09/19/26, 11:47 PM

Universal Music Group and Sony Music have filed a second suit against Suno over 60,202 sound recordings, arguing that its v6 model inherits value from earlier models trained on unlicensed material. Music Business Worldwide’s report on the federal complaint says the labels seek up to $150,000 per work, a theoretical ceiling above $9 billion, while Suno says v6 was trained from scratch with licensed partners. For builders, the new filing makes model lineage a product-risk question: log provenance across distillation and preference data, not only the final training corpus; the archive’s earlier Suno model review gives prior context.

Z.ai says FlashX reaches 200 tokens/s
09/19/26, 10:47 PM

Z.ai says GLM-5.3-FlashX is live at 200 tokens per second, its faster serving option for the 320-billion-parameter, 18-billion-active multimodal model. Z.ai’s model documentation lists that speed and a 1-million-token context window, but the headline is vendor-reported and does not establish tail latency, price, or quality on your workload. Builders evaluating open-model alternatives should read Arcee’s distinction between active and total parameters the same way: benchmark end-to-end throughput and memory before treating a token-rate claim as a deployment decision.

AI hallucination nearly triggers US operation
09/19/26, 09:48 PM

A single AI-generated intelligence report nearly triggered an armed U.S. operation against a Chinese vessel after a chatbot falsely identified its cargo as nuclear-weapons components. CNN’s account says officials halted the planned interception only after deeper review; the Pentagon strategy it cites aims to put AI in the hands of 3 million civilian and military personnel, while TechCrunch’s report says the output was turned into an official-looking report. For builders, high-consequence agent workflows need provenance, independent verification, and hard no-go gates before an output can authorize action—a governance lesson echoed by AISI’s agent-evaluation work.

Anthropic confirms its Bay Area wet lab
09/19/26, 09:48 PM

Anthropic has confirmed a Bay Area wet lab where its models are paired with physical biology experiments, as CEO Dario Amodei says AI could cure most major diseases within 5–10 years. TechCrunch’s report says the lab focuses on fundamental biology rather than drug discovery and works with outside partners; Anthropic’s Life Sciences Verification Program gives vetted bio researchers access to its most powerful models. Builders should read this as a shift from model demos to model-to-lab loops: provenance, access controls, and independent review now belong beside benchmark scores, much like the four-day wet-lab pilot for scientific AI.

Vals raises $40M for private AI benchmarks
09/19/26, 09:47 PM

Vals raised a $40 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz while reporting revenue eight times higher than last year and headcount growth from 8 to 25. TechCrunch’s profile of the private-evaluation startup says Vals keeps test materials undisclosed and measures real work in law, finance, coding, and frontier-risk domains. Builders should treat public leaderboard gains as leads, not procurement evidence, and budget for contamination-resistant task evaluations—the same test-split problem surfaced in Astra for Law’s benchmark result.

WaterPlum campaign hits 30,000 devices
09/19/26, 08:55 PM

US, Japanese, Australian, and German authorities say North Korea-linked WaterPlum compromised at least 30,000 devices in more than 100 countries, touched over 7,000 crypto wallets, and moved ¥1.7 billion ($10.71 million) in stolen crypto between December 2025 and July 2026. The FBI’s joint cybersecurity advisory and BleepingComputer’s report frame it as recruitment fraud with consequences for employers, candidates, and client networks. Treat remote hiring as an identity-and-access control problem, not only an HR check; the archive’s prior agent-security analysis makes the same case for minimizing trust in AI-adjacent workflows.

AI buildout could create 617M tonnes of e-waste
09/19/26, 08:52 PM

AI infrastructure could generate 395 million to 617 million metric tonnes of e-waste from 2025 through 2050, according to a Basel Action Network report covered by The Register’s account of the AI waste wave. The estimate counts power, cooling, networking, and copper-heavy distribution gear—not only GPUs—and puts a 100 MW AI facility at roughly 7,000 tonnes of equipment. Builders planning accelerator capacity should budget reuse and disposal beside electricity and water; Crusoe’s funding-to-delivery gap is a useful reminder that lifecycle assumptions belong in infrastructure finance.

Huawei scales Ascend 960 to 4,096 cards
09/19/26, 08:49 PM

Huawei says its new Atlas 960E SuperPoD can scale to 4,096 NPUs, deliver 8 exaflops of FP8 compute, and hold up to 1 petabyte of HBM; its near-packaged-optics design reportedly removes 48,000 800G optical modules and cuts power by more than 550 kW. Huawei’s AI DC Innovation Summit release presents those figures as company claims, not independent benchmarks. For builders weighing China’s accelerator stack, interconnect and facility power belong in the comparison alongside chip availability; Huawei’s global AICS rollout window shows why delivery geography matters too.
