Meta faces lawsuit over AI training and faceprints
Meta faces a proposed class action that seeks up to $5,000 per intentional or reckless violation after parents allege Facebook and Instagram photos fed AI training and the unreleased NameTag face-recognition system, WIRED reports. The complaint says the class could number in the millions; Meta denies the suit and says it is not building a universal face database, while WIRED says the glasses app carrying NameTag code had passed 50 million downloads. Builders handling user images should keep biometric consent separate from model-training consent, a sharper boundary than Meta’s contributor-data pricing case.
